CeeLo Green to leave The Voice

The announcement was made during CeeLo's appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, February 19. It seems he just can't handle any more pretentious up-and-comers boasting talent show ribbons and demo songs recorded in their mom's basement.
The Grammy Award-winning R&B performer told Ellen that he plans on furthering a television relationship with NBC (and even has a project in development), but that relationship does not involve The Voice. The show is set to premiere season six on Monday, February 24, without CeeLo in the coach's chair. Guess who doesn't have to pretend to care when an overemotional vocalist starts crying about "this amazing opportunity?" Lucky guy, that CeeLo.
Currently, The Voice is going through a coach rotation, featuring artists Shakira, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Usher. Fans of the show were hoping CeeLo would return for season seven, but it seems that is out of the picture.
It seems CeeLo is looking to get back to making original music. He is gearing up for a tour with Lionel Richie and has also hinted at releasing a new album--it's been four years since we heard new music from CeeLo, and the artist says he is nearly done with his next album.
While CeeLo expresses sadness at leaving The Voice, it seems the choice would have been easy: Touring with Lionel Richie, or listening to one more twenty-something butcher Carrie Underwood songs...
