Runway Girl Mary Kirby has ideas to avert tragedies like Flight MH370

Mary Kirby suggests backup transponders on airplanes
If only it were so simple. Mary Kirby, founder of the Runway Girl Network, says that one fix to the kind of communication breakdown that occurred when all contact was lost with Malasia Airlines Flight MH370 is to install backup transponders.

Would a backup transponder have maintained communication long enough to save MH370? The world will likely never know, but it certainly would have been a step in the right direction.
