Canadian actress Ellen Page has officially come out as a lesbian.

She made her public announcement at Time to THRIVE, a Las Vegas conference aimed at promoting the overall health and welfare of the LGBT community

According to the Juno and X-Men star, she has been working in an industry that "places crushing standards on all of us. Not just young people, but everyone. Standards of beauty. Of a good life. Of success. Standards that, I hate to admit, have affected me."

The actress expressed that it is difficult to stay true and authentic in a line of work that tells you how to act, think, behave, look, etc. Her announcement today is a testament to her quest for authenticity.

The 26-year-old said she was tired of hiding and refuses to continue to lie by omission. The best thing about Ellen Page coming out, though, was her saying, "Maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility."

Smart words from a smart lady. Congratulations, Ms. Page!
